Milling of a pavement surface refers to the mechanical removal of the pavement surface using milling machine. Milling is the automatically controlled removal of pavement to a desired depth with specially designed equipment, and restoration of the surface to a specified grade or slope, free of humps, ruts and other imperfections. After milling work the new HMA (Hot Mix Asphalt) can be laid. The purpose of using this method is to resurface without increasing the finished road level.
